03 October - Ip Logger Security feature added!

We have beefed up our security to combat the Scammers from contacting you if you have a listing on Ockalist.

You will notice this new feature added to the "Contact Seller" Form below most ads.

Emails sent to the seller will also have a record the senders IP. This IP can be reported to Admin if the email message sent to you appears to be offensive/inappropriate/spam.

This should hopefully reduce the amount of scammers contacting you and make Ockalist a safer site to use!

20 August - Ip Checks for all Ads listed

We will only accept Ads from Australian & New Zealand ips, unless prior approval has been granted. What is an IP you may ask? IP stands for Internet protocol. Every device connected to the Internet, is given an Internet protocol number. This address is used to identify the device uniquely among all other devices. This method is only to prevent overseas Ads and does not guarantee that all Ads listed on Ockalist will be genuine. How to avoid scams
• Do face to face transactions, with people in your same city.
• Don´t send any Money through Western Union, Bidpay, MoneyGram or similar ways.
• Don´t accept cheque.
• Don´t trust custody services like Escrow, bidpay, Western Union, etc.
• Don´t reveal neither personal nor financial information (bank account numbers, ID card, Social Security card, credit card numbers, etc). How to recognize scam attempt:
• The seller/buyer writes to you in a very bad English.
• The buyer offers a bigger amount than the one you suggested and then he asks for the difference.
• He asks you about personal or financial information.
• He says he works for the Government as a public employed (Example: Nigeria)
• The product for sale has a very low price regarding the market and its own properties.

What to do in case of a scam/fraud?
• Keep all dates you have (emails, ad, etc) from the buyer/seller.
• Report the Scam to SCAMWatch.
• Inform us:  Contact Admin

09 August - Including Photos with your Ad

06 August - Heres a tip on how NOT to get your business Ads Deleted.

Currently I am allowing legitimate businesses & services (with an actual address) to give themselves a free plug on the site. However here are the rules .. * If you provide products ..you must offer a product as a listing & not just a blurb about your business. * Dont submit the same ad to multiple locations ... please list in the region that your business is located. We offer a "Featured Ad" if you would like your listing to stay at the top of its category! * Place your Ad in the appropriate category, if its not there just contact me at Admin & suggest a new category.

03 August - I have tweaked your Ad Titles for better Results

Hi Folks, i have been busy tweaking the Site this includes all Ads titles to help them get found by the major search engines.
Just remember that search engines work differently to written ads. What you think is a good "Sales Header" to promote your item may contain very little relevant keywords describing your item. My aim is to get your ad noticed so that you have a better chance of selling it. If anyone disagrees with the changes to their ad title, just let me know at admin@ockalist.com.au

02 August - Great Tips for writing your ad!

Ok Folks, here is the news, we are currently getting indexed by all the major search engines. The site is well optimized, all you have to do is write your ad title carefully, think about how someone would type a search to find what you have for sale ... eg if you have a house for sale ..write the title as follows ...house for sale (your area) then the sales pitch! :-). use keywords in your ad that are specific to what you are listing. This method will help your ads get to the top of the search engines! hope this helps! Good luck with your listings!

02 August - Its a Good idea not to display your email address!

Due to the amount of scammers that have shown an interest in this site, i advise you not to display your email address in your Ads, you can select the contact form option allowing people to still contact you at your chosen email address.

Sometimes we receive emails about possible scams and frauds in Ockalist. Our experience tell us the best way to avoid them is making transactions face to face with people in your same city.

How to avoid scams

Please read the following carefully before placing a Ad

We will delete your Ad immediately, if we find that you post any of this Content. Repeat offences will lead to terminatation of your membership

• Ads placed from outside of Australia and New Zealand are not allowed.



• All goods and services advertised must conform to current laws and regulations in Australia.
  
  


• Only ads in English are allowed.
  
  


• The ad headline should be short and descriptive of what you are trying to sell / buy.
  
  


• Do not put price, year or mileage details in the headline.
  
  


• Do not Place ads for pure marketing purposes, without offering a concrete good or service.
  
  


• Do not Place ads containing porn, nudity or other inappropriate material in any other category except "Adult Personals" category.
  
  


• Do not Place ads that could be offensive to an individual or public person, or to an ethic group.
  
  


• Do not Place more than one version of the same ad.
  
  


• Do not Advertise "make money fast" business proposals or pyramid selling schemes.
  Concrete, well-explained "work from home" businesses might be allowed, but these types of services are usually not accepted as ads.
  
  


• Do not Use an irrelevant picture. The picture you submit should have an obvious relation to your ad.
  Please make sure that the picture is not copyrighted (unless by yourself).
  
  


• Do not Make references to other websites in the ad headline.
  
  


• Do not Place items clearly belonging to different categories in the same ad.
  
  


• Do not Link or refer your ad to other classified sites, auction sites, On-line dating & personals sites and real estate directory sites. Ockalist Admin reserves the right to delete web url links deemed as inappropriate without prior notice.





• Do not include material that exploits people under the age of 18 in a sexual or violent manner or is intended to solicit personal information from anyone under 18;
  
  Other Prohibited Listings include:
  
  


• Ads that involve the transmission of "junk mail," "chain letters," "spam" or any other unsolicited mass mailing, emailing or other communication;
  
  


• Ads that include any information that (1) you know is false or misleading, (2) promotes illegal activities or conduct that is abusive or (3) is threatening, obscene, defamatory or libelous;
  
  


• constitutes or includes any illegal or unauthorized copy of another person's copyrighted or copyrightable work, including but not limited to, (1) pirated computer programs or links to them, (2) information which circumvents manufacturer-installed copy-protect devices, (3) pirated music, images or video or links to pirated music, image or video files or (4) Content which otherwise violates the terms of Copyright Section below;
  
  


• Ads that provide instructional information about illegal activities such as making or buying illegal weapons, violating someone's privacy or providing or creating computer viruses; 




• Ads that solicit passwords or personally-identifying information for commercial or unlawful purposes from other Members;
  
  


• Ads that constitute or include any promotion, sales or other commercial activity such as contests, sweepstakes, barter or advertising;
  
  Ockalist reserves the right to approve, or reject, and in some cases edit, all ads placed on Ockalist, without prior consultation.
  Paid Feature Ads that violate our terms and conditions will also be deleted and are non-refundable.
